WIND TURBINE SITE ASSESSMENTS

For Wind Systems up to 100 kW

One way to reduce your dependence on nonrenewable fossil fuels is to install a wind turbine and associated equipment at your site to generate a portion or all of your electric needs using nonpolluting renewable energy. In addition, connecting your system to the utility grid will allow you to sell surplus power to the utility.
The certified wind turbine site assessments we provide will help determine if your site is a good candidate for a wind turbine electric system.

A site assessment includes the following:

  • A review of your goals for having a wind system.

  • A basic analysis of your energy needs.

  • An evaluation of the wind resource at your site.

  • Recommendations for potential wind system locations, turbine options, tower types, and the minimum   tower height to optimize the wind resource at your location and to meet your energy goals.

  • Estimates of wind system production for different turbine options and tower heights which will help determine the amount of money Focus on Energy may reimburse for the completed installation.

  • Rough cost estimates for various systems.

  • An overview of the incentives for which the systems are eligible. A site assessment is required to receive Focus on Energy Cash Back Rewards.

  • Preliminary economic analysis of the system options.

  • The next steps you need to take to make your system a reality.

One of the most critical aspects of a wind site assessment is the estimate of the wind resource at the recommended tower height. This estimate will be based on available wind resource data and basic computer modeling. This site assessment does not cover the cost of any long-term wind resource measurements.

Depending on the complexity and location of the site, assessments by SolaRain™ LLC can be completed starting at $600.

A more thorough overview of how you can assess your property’s renewable energy potential is provided at Focus on Energy here.

Wisconsin Focus on Energy Cash-Back Rewards and federal tax credits can cover up to half the cost of a small wind turbine electric system during the system’s first year! Several Wisconsin electric utilities, offer special solar buy-back rates that purchase every kilowatt-hour (kWh) your system generates for 20 to 25 cents.
